Ramon A. Brittain was born in the small town of Casar, North Carolina, the seventh of ten children of C.A. and Millie Hipps Brittain. He took his first pictures while still a young man. He loved to study watches and other small mechanical devices, so his fascination with cameras was no surprise. In the 1940s, he was one of the very few people in the area with a camera. Most of Ramon Brittain's pictures fall into two categories: travel and family. Many family members had very few pictures except those provided by Ramon.
