Ramon Brittain was an avid photographer for many years, starting in the 1930s. See decade descriptions beginning with the 1940s below.
1940s
During the 1940s, Mr. Brittain took pictures of his military tour in Panama. The 40s also included his dating years and marriage to Nellie Taylor.
1950s
The 1950s brought about Air Force stations in Texas, Illinois, Georgia and Greenland.
1960s
The 1960s began with the Brittains living on Laughlin Air Force Base in Del Rio, Texas. From there they moved to Elmendorf AFB in Anchorage, Alaska. This group includes pictures of damage from the Great Alaska Earthquake. Mr. Brittain's last duty post was Pope AFB near Fayetteville, NC. He retired from the Air Force in 1967 and moved with the family to North Carolina.
1970s
Connelly Springs, NC was the home base for pictures in the 1970s. This is the decade Mr. Brittain's children found their wings. Pictures include Rex's family and military years. Rex's son Reg was born during this time – the first grandchild.
1980s
This decade includes the births of three more grandchildren – Rex's daughter Claire and Nena's sons Aaron and Benjamin. There are also pictures of fun retirement travels and activities.
1990s
Ramon and Nell celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary in 1992. These were happy times. Another grandchild came along – Rex's son Reilly. There was a sadness later in the decade, as Nell's battle with Alzheimer's began.
